Mies Van Der Rohe - 50 Foot House

Coming Soon!

The 50 foot house was a project (not built) designed by the German Architect Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe in 1952. It was intended to show that all the functions of a house could be provided in a structure only 15m by 15m (50' by 50').

The house is a typical Modern Movement design - plate glass walls and a completely open plan. Mies Van Der Rohe famously remarked that "less is more", a comment carried to extreme in this design, and his more famous Farnsworth House, built in 1954.

Of note in this house is the steel frame roof suspended on 4 slender steel girders, freeing both the inside of the house from pillars and the walls from unnecessary obstructions.

The model is in 1:100 scale and is printed on 5 A4 sheets (though they should print on letter-sized paper). One of the sheets needs to be printed or photocopied onto acetate (an overhead transparency is ideal), the remainder should be printed onto 170gsm card (about 110lb US). The interior of the house and some furniture is included.

The model files are supplied as PDF files and should print on A4 or letter size paper. Click on the links below:
